Sunday Oka, a panel beater posing as a naval officer, has been arrested by the officers of the New Haven Division of Enugu State Police Command after he ordered the release of two fraudsters, Abea Johnson and Henry Nwankwo, who were arrested for being in possession of fake currency notes.
PUNCH reports that Oka had long been defrauding residents of Enugu and Anambra States with the fake identity, but he ran out of luck after he accepted N34, 000 from Nwankwo’s wife and promised to get her husband out from jail.
Johnson and Nwankwo were arrested in December following a tip-off; the men bought items using fake currency notes and received genuine currency as change. When they were arrested, the police recovered N45, 000 of the fake currency (in N1,000 bills) from them.
Upon his arrival at the New Haven police station, PUNCH reports that Oka, dressed in full naval regalia, was easily found out by the police and arrested on the spot.
Confirming his arrest, the spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, said Oka and the fraudsters will be charged to court.
