In Apapa, Lagos, a Nigerian woman, Chinwe Abasi, has been arrested for bathing her 12-year-old houseboy, Chinedu Okorie, with hot water during a domestic altercation, PUNCH reports.
The Anambra State-born mother of two attacked the boy after she learned that their neighbour gave him N100 to buy a new pair of socks without her knowledge. Chinedu, a junior secondary school student, also worked as a sales boy to Mrs Abasi after school. After school resumed last Monday, Chinedu informed his guardian that he needed new socks, but she ignored him, until a neighbour offered the boy N100 to get them.
Angry that he accepted the money, Mrs Abasi reportedly beat up the boy, and in the course of the domestic violence, she grabbed a kettle of boiling water and upended it on the boy.
Neighbours intervened and the mother of two was arrested by the officers of the Festac Police station. Also, the case has been reported to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team who currently have taken custody of Chinedu and cared for his medical needs.
Though Mrs Abasi claims she ‘mistakenly’ poured the hot water on the boy, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, has confirmed that they are proceeding to charge her to court.
